What is Intersex People?

  • Intersex is when someone is born with reproductive or sexual parts that don’t fit typical definitions of male or female.
  • Intersex can be divided into four categories:

  • 46, XY intersex – Male chromosomes but external genitals are incompletely formed, ambiguous or female. Testes may be normal, malformed, or absent. Testosterone issues and other foetal development variations may cause it
  • True gonadal intersex – when an individual have both testicylar and ovarian tissues
  • Complex or undetermined intersex – include chromosome number out of 46 XX or 46 XY.
  • Currently, 7% of newborns are intersex.
  • Transgenders are different from intersex people.
