BORDER ROAD ORGANISATION

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), established on May 7, 1960, is a vital force in India dedicated to constructing and maintaining roads, particularly in border regions, for the support of the Indian Armed Forces. Operating in 19 states, three union territories, and neighbouring countries like Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Tajikistan, and Sri Lanka, the BRO plays a crucial role in infrastructure development. The General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) constitutes the BRO’s parent cadre, supported by officers and troops from the Indian Army’s Corps of Engineers. In addition to upgrading India-China Border Roads, the BRO engages in diverse projects, spanning roads, bridges, and airfields in challenging environments. With a history marked by involvement in conflicts and anti-insurgency operations, the BRO, guided by the motto “Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam” (everything is achievable through hard work), remains a key component of India’s defence strategy.
