The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)’s annual report reveals a harrowing surge in crimes against women in India.

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) is an Indian government agency responsible for collecting and analyzing crime data from across the country. It was established in 1986 under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The NCRB collects data on various types of crimes, including:

  • Indian Penal Code (IPC) crimes: These are the most serious crimes, such as murder, rape, and robbery.
  • Special and local laws (SLL) crimes: These are crimes that are not covered by the IPC, such as drug trafficking and environmental offenses.
  • Economic offenses: These are crimes that involve financial gain, such as fraud and embezzlement.
  • Crime against women: These are crimes that are specifically directed against women, such as domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Crime against children: These are crimes that are specifically directed against children, such as child labor and child trafficking.

Annual Reports:

  • Crime in India: This is the most comprehensive report published by the NCRB. It provides detailed statistics on all types of crimes reported in India, including IPC crimes, SLL crimes, economic offenses, crimes against women and children, and cybercrime. The report also includes data on crime detection, charge-sheeting, conviction rates, and prison statistics.
  • Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India: This report provides data on accidental deaths and suicides in India, including the number of cases, causes of death, and trends over time.
  • Prison Statistics India: This report provides data on the prison population in India, including the number of prisoners, age and gender distribution, types of offenses committed, and prison conditions.
  • Finger Print in India: This report provides data on fingerprint identification in India, including the number of fingerprints collected, the number of criminal cases solved through fingerprint identification, and the performance of fingerprint bureaus

The NCRB also plays a role in crime prevention and criminal justice reform. It provides data and analysis that can be used to develop and implement effective crime prevention strategies. The NCRB also works with other government agencies to improve the criminal justice system.
