Gorbea Solar Power Project: A Leap in India’s Clean Energy Mission
In July 2025, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the 435 MW Gorbea Solar Power Project in Rajasthan, marking a milestone in India’s renewable energy expansion.
Project Highlights
Built in under eight months by Zelestra India, the project spans 1,250 acres in Bikaner district. It uses advanced Topcon Bifacial Mono PERC solar panels with over 1,300 robotic cleaning units ensuring optimal performance. The plant will generate 755 GWh of clean electricity annually, powering 1.28 lakh households, and cutting 7.05 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions every year.
Economic and Social Impact
The project has leased land from farmers, providing them stable income while employing over 700 local workers during construction, thus enhancing livelihood opportunities. Minister Joshi emphasised that farmers have now become both food and energy providers, reflecting inclusive growth.
Policy Support and Future Prospects
Rajasthan derives 70% of its power from renewables, with solar contributing 29.5 GW and wind 5.2 GW out of its 35.4 GW installed renewable capacity. The state’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy and Green Hydrogen Policy 2024 are fostering investments worth Rs 6.57 lakh crore, mainly in green sectors. Pilot projects for perovskite tandem solar cells are planned to boost efficiency further.
The Gorbea Solar Project symbolises India’s rapid strides towards clean energy and climate goals. As Minister Joshi declared, this is not merely a power project but the beginning of a new era of energy security, sustainability, and self-reliance for India.
