Regur soil
Regur soil, also known as black cotton soil, is a type of clayey soil found mainly in the Deccan Plateau of India. It is rich in minerals like iron, magnesium, and aluminum, and is known for its dark color and fine texture.
This soil has high moisture-retaining capacity, making it ideal for cotton cultivation—hence the name “black cotton soil.” However, it swells and shrinks with changes in moisture, which can make construction challenging.
Regur soil is formed from the weathering of volcanic rocks (mainly basalt) and is commonly found in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Despite its fertility, it often requires proper drainage and irrigation management to avoid waterlogging.
