UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3: A Breakthrough in India’s Drone Warfare

India’s defence sector has achieved a significant milestone with the successful test-firing of the UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 at the NOAR range in Kurnool. This indigenously developed missile reflects India’s growing self-reliance in advanced defence technologies and marks a major advancement in drone-based precision strike capabilities.

What is ULPGM-V3?

ULPGM-V3 is a precision-guided, air-to-surface missile designed to be launched from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It is an extended-range variant developed after ULPGM-V1 and V2, offering enhanced performance and strike range. Built for day and night operations, the missile minimizes collateral damage while engaging both static and mobile ground targets.

Key Features

The ULPGM-V3 integrates state-of-the-art technologies such as an Imaging Infrared (IIR) seeker, dual-thrust propulsion, and a two-way datalink. It has an effective range of 4 km during the day and 2.5 km at night. The missile supports top-attack mode and is equipped with a tandem warhead capable of defeating Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) on tanks. At just 12.5 kg, it can be integrated with lightweight drones like Rustom and TAPAS-BH.

Indigenous Development and Strategic Importance

Developed by DRDO in collaboration with Bharat Dynamics Limited, Adani, MSMEs, and startups, the ULPGM-V3 reflects the strength of India’s Make in India initiative. The missile’s successful test at NOAR—India’s cutting-edge defence test facility—demonstrates the nation’s capability to build and validate high-end autonomous weapon systems.

ULPGM-V3 enhances India’s strategic autonomy by enabling unmanned, high-precision aerial strikes. It strengthens national security, boosts defence exports, and positions India as a leader in next-generation drone warfare technology.
