BASIC ANIMAL HUSBANDRY STATISTICS 2023
Why in News?
Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Shri Parshottam Rupala released the Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2023 (milk, egg, meat and wool production 2022-23) based on Animal Integrated Sample Survey (March 2022-February 2023) during the National Milk Day event at Guwahati.
FINDINGS OF THE REPORT
Milk Production
- The total Milk production in the country is estimated as 230.58 million tonnes during 2022-23 registered a growth of 22.81%over the past 5 years.
- The production has increased by 3.83% during 2022-23 over the estimates of 2021-22.
- Highest milk producing states during 2022-23 – Uttar Pradesh >> Rajasthan >> Madhya Pradesh >> Gujarat >> Andhra Pradesh.
- In terms of annual growth rate (AGR), the highest AGR recorded by Karnataka (8.76%) followed by West Bengal (8.65%) and Uttar Pradesh (6.99%) over the previous year.
Egg Production
- The total Egg production in the country has estimated as 138.38 billion nos. during 2022-23 registered a growth of 33.31% growth over the past 5 years.
- The production has increased annually by 6.77%during 2022-23 over 2021-22.
- Highest Egg producing states during 2022-23 – Andhra Pradesh >> Tamil Nadu >> Telengana >> West Bengal >> Karnataka.
- In terms of annual growth rate (AGR), the highest AGR recorded by West Bengal followed by Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh over the previous year.
Meat Production
- The total Meat production in the country is estimated as 9.77million tonnes during 2022-23 registered a growth of 20.39 % over the past 5 years.
- The production was increased by 5.13 % in 2022-23.
- Highest meat producing states during 2022-23 – Uttar Pradesh >> West Bengal >> Maharashtra >> Andhra Pradesh >> Telangana
- In terms of annual growth rate (AGR), the highest AGR recorded by Sikkim followed by Meghalaya and Goa over the previous year
Wool Production
- The total Wool production in the country is estimated as 33.61 million kg during 2022-23 registered a negative growth of 16.84% over the past 5 years
- The production has increased by 2.12% in 2022-23 over 2021-22
- Highest wool producing states during 2022-23 – Rajasthan >> Jammu Kashmir >> Gujarat >> Maharashtra >> Himachal Pradesh
- In terms of annual growth rate (AGR), the highest AGR recorded by Arunachal Pradesh followed by Rajasthan and Jharkhand over the previous year
